Rocky Top Sports World and Girls Basketball Association Unite to Host Two Benefit Tournaments in 2018

Gatlinburg, TN – Rocky Top Sports World and the Girls Basketball Association (GBA) are pleased to announce upcoming basketball tournaments honoring two of college basketball’s greatest influencers – Pat Summitt and Jim Valvano.

The Tennessee Legend Classic will take place on the Gatlinburg campus April 13-15, 2018, with proceeds benefiting The Pat Summitt Foundation. This organization was founded by former University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball Head Coach Pat Summitt shortly after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2011. The foundation awards grants to those working to eradicate the disease. The tournament is open to girls’ basketball teams and guarantees a three-game minimum at the complex.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give back to a true pioneer and legend in women’s basketball. What we have been able to achieve in women’s basketball today is possible in large part because of what Coach Summitt did for the game of basketball,” owner/director of GBA Jeff Ferguson commented.

In late June 2018, the Gatlinburg Jimmy V Classic will be played to benefit The V Foundation, founded in 1993 by the legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano, or “Jimmy V”, and ESPN to fund cancer research in his memory. This event is open to boys’ and girls’ teams in grades 4th – 11th.

The Girls Basketball Association, founded in 2003, provides young women the opportunity to continually improve their basketball skills throughout the year with clinics, camps, and tournaments throughout the Ohio region. The organization has now expanded tournament play in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

Registration is currently being accepted for both events. Costs, team requirements, and discounted lodging information can be found at RockyTopSportsWorld.com or by calling 865-325-0044.
